About Cal Lutheran

Founded in 1959, California Lutheran University is home to more than 2,810 undergraduate and 1,316 graduate students who come from more than 61 countries and represent a wide variety of faiths.

Our dedicated, accomplished faculty works with small classes of students who are open-minded—about ideas, about people, and about faith—and are seeking to grow as individuals.

Both in the classroom and outside of it, everyone at Cal Lutheran is committed to helping each student pursue their passions to discover their purpose, and follow that purpose to transform their community—and the world.

Cal Lutheran's main 225-acre Thousand Oaks campus (located between Los Angeles and Santa Barbara) is complemented by four satellite centers in Oxnard, Santa Maria, Westlake Village, and Woodland Hills.

In February 2016, the U.S. Department of Education designated Cal Lutheran a Hispanic-serving institution, which makes it eligible for grants to benefit its growing Latino population and other students.

Research and Scholarship

Cal Lutheran students across all disciplines are given opportunities to participate in research and creative scholarship, allowing them to make original contributions to their fields while they study.

Faculty-mentored, self-directed work is facilitated through our research programs, which serve both our undergraduate and graduate students. Their accomplishments include all types of scholarship — traditional lab research, creative works, quantitative research and qualitative explorations.

Giving them invaluable experience for the future, students are called to present their research to their peers and the community during our annual conferences and exhibits.

Festival of Scholars

Every spring, we showcase our students' scholarly work. In addition to traditional research studies, the projects include creative work and the application of theory to real-life situations.
