About

Dr Louise A. Kelly joined the California Lutheran University in 2008. In 2005, she earned her PhD in Pediatric Exercise Science from the University of Glasgow, Scotland. She subsequently completed a three-year postdoctoral fellowship in Preventive Medicine at the University of Southern California. She has conducted research on the etiology, prevention and treatment of pediatric obesity, prevention of type 2 diabetes and obesity related cancers in minority youth. She has expertise in methodologies such as nutritional assessment, accelerometer, indirect calorimeter, and doubly labeled water. Her research is currently focused on the role of exercise in the prevention and treatment of pediatric obesity and metabolic disorders. She also served a three year term as the Director for the Centre for Academic Service Learning (CASL). She was the site PI for a longitudinal study investigating concussions funded by the NCAA and the Department of Defence.  In 2019, she was awarded the Provost Distinguished Scholar award for her contribution to research.
